It has every thing to offer to it’s a curious tourist from historic sites and remarkable museum to traditional architecture and elegant monuments revealing its 500 year history. Its vibrant and intellectual life has attracted many foreign students to continue their studies here. Last but not the least the city takes pride of being the birthplace of Mariachi music (traditional Mexican folk music) and tequila (Mexican alcoholic drink).
Most interesting tourist attractions of the city include the Government Palace, first occupied by the governors of New Galicia during the colonial period. The palace later served as a residence for Miguel Hidalgo, who, from that very palace passed a law abolishing slavery in 1810.
