Delhi

Delhi is the capital city of India. It represents people, religion, language, caste, tradition, culture, art of all the states of the country. Qutub Minar is the best-known landmark of Delhi. The tower has five storeys and each storey has a separate balcony with wonderful views of Delhi from the top. Of course some accidents have lead to ban on the entry to the tower.

Red Fort is made of red sandstone. It is surrounded by a moat. It was the focal point of patriotic fervor during India's struggle for freedom. India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, addressed the nation from the ramparts of the fort when India became free at midnight on August 15, 1947.

Jama Masjid is the great mosque is situated opposite the Red Fort. It has three great gateways, four towers and two minarets constructed of strips of red sandstone and white marble. The mosque is capable of accommodating 25,000 believers.

Raj Ghat offers a memorial to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Two museums dedicated to the Mahatma stand close by. A prayer on his tribute is held here every Friday, the day of the week on which he was assassinated.

Jantar Mantar is close to Connaught Place. It is one of the seven observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh, the astronomer-king of Jaipur.
